Our land is in trouble it needs your help

Our land is in trouble it needs your help So are the oceans, the coral, the kelp
There must be a way for all to unite, To stop the earth from a disastrous fright

We can't leave this world a barren waste land, But luscious and fertile, as many creatures as there are sand

We're destroying our jungles, our forests our beaches, Taking away what is the earth's like billions of leaches.
Few Natural Habitats are left on the globe, All are scattered like the beats of a strobe

We welcome you to an endangered land, To show you how animals dwindle like an hour glass's sand

Only you can help to save our earth...!

News

Police in Brazil have arrested at least 70 people suspected of illegal logging in the Amazon - including officials employed to protect the rainforest. Several environmental officials in Mato Grosso state are accused of providing false licences for the extraction of timber from protected areas

Loggers, landowners and forest managers have also been charged. Police estimate that the illegal logging operation has caused damage amounting to about $500m (£345m). The arrests followed a two-year investigation in six Amazon states

And hopefully, with care give it a rebirth
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Union is bogged down in a power struggle over who speaks for the bloc at international meetings, threatening action on environmental issues from mercury pollution to whaling, EU officials say

With the world's eyes on the environmental catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico, many are beginning to ponder the rightness of not just America's, but the world's dependence on fossil fuels. Yet large-scale fossil-fuel energy projects continue to march ahead, including one in the Malaysian state of Sabah on Borneo to build a 300 MW coal plant, which has come under fierce opposition from locals (already the project has been forced to move locations twice).!

The newest proposal will build the coal plant, as photos below reveal, on an undeveloped beach overlooking the Coral Triangle, one of the world's most biodiverse marine environments, with transmission lines likely running through nearby pristine rainforest that are home to several endangered species, including orangutans and Bornean rhinos

LONDON (Reuters) - This year is on track to be the hottest ever after data published by America's climate agency this week showed record global temperatures in April and the first four months of 2010

about earth

The Rainforests are the most natural, beautiful, diverse places on this Earth. They are home to many rare birds, plants and animals, contributing around 50 to 80% of the species on this Earth. Today it is termed as. 'The Lungs of the Earth' and two thousand years ago, 'The Gardens of Eden'. Within the last forty years we as a whole have managed to destroy seventy percent of these Ancient Forests

It takes an average of 300-500 years for a tree to firmly establish its roots with a maximum height for some of the trees reaching 200ft you can easily see why it takes this long and yet minutes to burn. With the size of Wales being destroyed each year for products such as toilet paper, newspaper, writing paper and furniture, the forests are looking more like deserts than the greenery it once was. So where are these forests that we hear so much about, below is a list of them all, many now have been cultivated for land to graze cattle, for roads and of course felled for their timber

Whats the difference between Rainforests and other forests?1
Latitude and rainfall distinguish tropical forests from temperate (or moderate climate) forests which are found in warm climates but not too hot to be called tropical. Temperate forests are at ground elevation, mainly in North America, Europe and cooler Australasia

There are many types

deciduous woodland, coniferous woodland, Mediterranean woodland and temperate rainforest

All tropical rainforests lie between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. They receive more water, being in the monsoon regions

There are many different kinds of rainforest : tropical evergreen, tropical moist deciduous, cloud forest, lowland rainforest and peaty swamp forest

Rainforests may grow in thin and sterile soil. This is achieved by ample sunlight and water, and nutrients from decaying plant matter. In the warm damp conditions, dead plants rapidly decay and by bacterial or microbial action, the nutrients are released

The forests are a closed ecosystem where everything is recycled but once these forests are opened, the decaying matter is cleared, the moist conditions disappear and slowly the forest cannot sustain itself
